Strategy and Policy. M.Sc. (Econ) Vesa Ekroos has been a member of Mehiläinen Oyj´s Board of Directors and Senior Adviser 2003-2006. Mehiläinen Oyj is the leading provider of private health care in Finland - offering medical consultation, occupational health services, hospital services, diagnostic services, and elderly care services. Vesa Ekroos served as Chairman of the Board of Mehiläinen Oyj between 1995 and 2003, and as CEO of Mehiläinen Oyj between 1986 and 1995 and in various senior positions in the subsidiaries of the Orion Group between 1972 and 1986 (CEO of Orion Corporation Soredex, developing, producing and exporting medical equipment world wide). Orion Group is the leading provider of pharmaceutical products in Finland as well as the leading whole seller of medical equipment and health care materials. He is also Chairman of the Board and owner of Balustrade Oy, a consulting company specialized in health care management consultation. Board and Advisory Board Memberships Vesa Ekroos has been the Chairman of the Board of the Finnish Association of Private Hospitals, Chairman of an alliance of private health care providers represented by the Finnish Association of Private Hospitals, the Association of Outpatient Clinics, the Private Clinical Laboratories Association, and the Finnish Private Imaging Centres Association; and a member of the Board of Health Care Service Providers, the Businessmen´s Association and Chairman of the Board of Mediverkko Oy. He is Board member of the Medical Philosophy Society in Finland (honorary member 2004), the Mehiläinen Research Foundation, Finnish Society of Technology Assesment in Health Care (STAS ry), the Family Federation, Medimar Scandinavia Ab, NHG Oy (health care consulting company), Kauniala Hospital Oy and Kyyhkylä Foundation (war invalid hospitals) and Chairman of the Board in Väestöliiton klinikat Oy (Fertility Clinics) and Kvalion Oy. He is the founder partner of Sailab ry, the Association of Laboratory and Health Care Products Suppliers. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of the Tapiola Mutual Life Insurance Company. He is also a member of several advisory groups of various government departments (Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Ministry of Employment and the Economy). He is also member of the Finnish Association of Professional Board Members.
Studies and Consulting Vesa Ekroos has carried out more than 40 special studies and consultations concerning social- and health care providing in public and private sector. The subjects for these studies have been Corporate Governance, business and financial management, quality management, personnel management and production management for health care provider organizations. The principals for these studies and consultations have been various government departments, municipalities, hospital districts, the Finnish Medical Association, the Association of Pharma Industry in Finland, medical equipment and materials suppliers and private health care provider organizations.
Executive Education
Vesa Ekroos has taught in executive education programs arranged by various universities, ministries, MBA-programs (Helsinki University of Technology), TEJOKO Health Care Executive Education (Helsinki School of Economics), the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, LIFIM, Finnish Medical Association, hospital districts, public and private education organizations and associations. The subjects of teaching have been Corporate Governance, strategic planning, accounting, budgeting, pricing, finance, investment calculation, marketing, communication, public relations, quality management, personnel strategy and customer orientation in health care industry. Vesa Ekroos serves as regular columnist and writer for leading health care newspapers and journals in Finland. He has been interviewed by leading Finnish health care journals, general newspapers and magazines.
